What is Stroke?

When the blood vessel in the brain ruptures and when it starts bleeding, a stroke occurs. This rupture results in prevention of blood and oxygen supply to the brain’s tissues. Stroke is also a medical emergency when a blockage occurs in the blood supply to the brain. It is essential to seek immediate medical treatment for the same. Any potential complications as well as brain damage complications are minimized if prompt medical treatment is given. Stroke symptoms are arm weakness, difficulty in speech, face drooping, weakness in any part of the body, dizziness, confusion, severe headache, blurred vision, numbness in some parts of the body, etc. Some other stroke symptoms include, muscle stiffness, confusion, memory loss, muscle stiffness, involuntary eye movements, etc.

Causes of stroke

A transient ischemic attack is caused when a temporary blockage in an artery leads to the brain. This blockage is nothing but a blood clot that would stop blood from flowing to specific parts of the brain. A transient ischemic attack usually lasts for a few minutes up to a few hours, post which the blockage moves and then the blood flow is restored.

The second type of stroke which is an ischemic stroke is caused by a blockage in an artery leading to the brain that may be a blood clot. There are chances of this blood clot causing due to atherosclerosis. In this medical condition, a fatty substance or a plaque starts building up on the blood vessel walls.

The third type of stroke which is a hemorrhagic stroke is a result of a burst or leaking blood vessel. In this type of stroke, blood starts seeping inside as well as around the brain tissues that causes the pressure and damages the brain cells. Hemorrhagic stroke is usually caused due to aneurysm or high blood pressure.

Types of Stroke

There are three main types of strokes, namely transient ischemic attack (TIA), ischemic stroke, and hemorrhagic stroke. Further these types of strokes are classified into sub-stypes which are embolic stroke, thrombatic stroke, subarachnoid stroke and intracerebral stroke. Your recovery process and treatment totally depends on the type of stroke.

  • The embolic stroke is a type of stroke wherein a blood clot occurs in some other part of the body which is usually the heart or the arteries in the upper chest as well as neck and further moves via the bloodstream to the brain. This clot further gets stucks in the arteries of the brain causing a blockage of blood supply and resulting in a stroke
  • A transient ischemic attack is also known as ministroke and it happens when the blood supply to the brain gets blocked temporarily. This type of a stroke is caused usually due to a blood clot
  • When an artery in the brain either leaks or opens, a hemorrhagic stroke is caused

Treatment

What are the available Stroke treatment options?

Stroke Treatment depends on the type of stroke:

Treatment for Ischemic stroke and TIA

Ischemic and transient ischemic attack are the types of stroke that are caused due to a blood clot or other blockages in the brain, and hence they are usually treated with similar techniques, including antiplatelet and anticoagulants.

Are there any natural or homemade remedies for Trichomonas Infection?

Mentioned below are some of the home remedies for trichomonas infection treatment:

Clot-breaking drugs such as thrombolytic drugs lead to breaking up of the blood clots in the arteries of your brain that will still stop the stroke and further reduce any damage to the brain.

Mechanical thrombectomy is a medical treatment wherein the doctor will insert a catheter into a large blood vessel inside your head. A device will be later used to pull the clot out of the vessel. As per the medical expertise, if mechanical thrombectomy is performed immediately post 6 to 24 hours after the stroke begins, the surgery will have higher success results.

In case your doctor feels if the walls of the artery have weakened, a procedure would be performed for inflation of the narrowed artery that will support the walls of the artery with the help of a stent.

In the rare circumstances, wherein other medical treatments do not work, you may be suggested to go for a surgery that will remove the blood clot as well as the plaques from your arteries. Your doctor may even remove the blockage by opening an artery with the help of a a catheter.

Stroke Treatment for Hemorrhagic stroke

Strokes that are caused by brain bleeds or leaks need different stroke treatment strategies. Treatments for hemorrhagic stroke include medications that will counteract any blood thinners that you consume.

Drugs that help in reducing the blood pressure or for lowering the pressure in your brain or prevent seizures as well as prevent blood vessel constriction, may also be used.

Coiling is one procedure wherein your doctor may guide you a long tube to the hemorrhage area or weakened blood vessel, post which they install a coil-like device in that area wherein the artery wall is weak. This then leads to reducing the bleeding by blocking the blood flow to the area.

Your doctor at the time of imaging tests, may discover an aneurysm that hasn’t started bleeding yet or probably has stopped. In order to prevent any additional bleeding, the surgeon may place a small clamp at the aneurysm base. This will lead to cutting off the blood supply and further preventing a possible broken blood vessel or any new bleeding. This procedure is known as coiling.

In case your doctor observes that an aneurysm has burst, an immediate surgery would be performed for clipping the aneurysm and further preventing additional bleeding. Similarly, in order for relieving the pressure on the brain post a stroke, a craniotomy may be needed.

Furthermore for emergency treatment, your doctor may advise you on different ways for any future stroke prevention.
